Hello and Welcome,
My name is Mr. Ekdahl and this is my first year teaching English Language Arts at Canby High School. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself a little bit more.
I am originally from Tualatin, Oregon, but completed all of my college work at the University of Oregon. Go Ducks! As an undergraduate, I studied English literature and Spanish with a concentration in Ethnic literature. During my college years, I also worked as a tutor for the American English Institute. There I tutored international students in both written and conversational English.
After I finished my undergraduate work, I returned home to the Tigard-Tualatin School District as an English Language Development (ELD) instructional assistant. This job greatly expanded my knowledge of the varied languages, histories, traditions, beliefs, and values that my students bring into my classroom.
This past year, I completed my Master’s of Education at the University of Oregon. As a student teacher, I taught 8th grade English Language Arts at Cascade Middle School and 10th grade English Language Arts at North Eugene. Some highlights include teaching The Crucible and poems by Audre Lorde.
When I am not teaching, I love being outdoors. On a nice day, you can find me hiking or bicycling somewhere in the greater Portland area. I also love to read, watch movies, and spend time with my mini schnauzer Zoey.
